What is CEREC Primescan Technology?
This technology performs a very high precision intraoral scan. Within seconds, highly detailed digital impressions of your teeth and the inside of your mouth are transmitted to a computerized program that designs a dental restoration perfectly suited to the tooth to be restored. In just a few minutes, the dental restoration is fabricated from a ceramic block and installed.
CEREC Primescan technology can be used to design different types of restorations, including
- Dental crowns: A dental crown is a hollow tooth that is placed over a damaged tooth. The purpose of the crown is to solidify the tooth and prevent further damage. They can be used for cosmetic purposes, as well as to solidify a tooth following a root canal or a major filling.
- Inlays: An inlay is used to replace a filling, or to repair a tooth that has suffered decay. Ceramic inlays are very strong and look good with natural teeth.
- Dental veneers: Dental veneers are thin shells that are placed over teeth that need to be improved. They can be used to correct the color, shape or alignment of teeth. CEREC Primescan technology makes it possible to create veneers that are both durable and aesthetically pleasing.
CEREC Primescan technology has many advantages:
- The entire process of designing and placing a ceramic dental restoration is completed in one appointment.
- No need to take traditional impressions: thanks to Primescan’s high-precision intraoral scanning, impressions are taken digitally.
- Because the entire process is completed in one appointment, the patient does not need to wear a temporary restoration, which is often uncomfortable and less sturdy.
- The patient only needs to undergo one local anesthetic for the placement of the restoration.
